Putting the kibosh on nature’s lower order

  • These are their halcyon days, these weeks of warm days, rain showers and budding vegetation. Behind our walls, in our attics, beneath our foundations, they are coming alive again with thoughts of food and procreation weighing heavily on their minds. If you haven’t noticed them yet, you soon will, swarming under foot and in the grass like black tide. They are the stuff of springs as much as pollen and robins, and for many of us that is nothing to celebrate. As for the rest of nature’s crawling army, Alley's has an arsenal and nearly 26 years experience ready to go to work. "We like Texas because of the humidity, soil and long stretches of warm weather. You have to be aggressive at homes, apartment and commercial establishments or the insects can take over," Alley's cautioned.
  • In fact, it was the state’s abundant vermin population that brought Alley back to Texas, to join his father’s pest control company in 1982. They sold that successful venture in 1991, and short time later Joe Jr. <’93> started his own business with his father serving as Sales Director.
  • "I didn’t think it was fair to go after our old clients, so I just started anew," "I made a lot of phone calls and met as many new people as possible. Within three months, we had number of clients, and now 10 years later I can say this has proven much more successful than I expected."  That success can be attributed to hard work rather than formal promotion.  Our only advertising has come in the Yellow Pages and there hasn’t been a lot of that.
  • What sets Alley’s apart is the approach to service. Central to our strategy are the moderate prices he charges---$95.95 for general pests—and the time we take to educate homeowners about their problems and our measure of alleviating them. We commonly spend up to an hour with a customer to make certain all questions are answered and all fears allayed—and all pets moved safely from harm’s way.
  • "We are licensed by the State Structural Pest Control Board and therefore require to take continuing education courses regularly, very important when chemicals are involved. Knowing which chemicals to use and how to dilute them should not be a matter of guess work, we emphasize.
  • An American born in Cuba, Alley and his family came to United States in 1968 to get away from the Castro regime.  After finishing school in South Grand Prairie, Texas.   Alley moved to Los Angeles, there he went to work for a large pest control company {Dewey Pest Control}, soon becoming a Branch Supervisor in the Beverly Hills area.  Regular clients included such entertainers as Rock Hudson, Raquel Welch, Martin Landau, Richard Benjamin, David Soul, and Don Rickles, Cheryl Ladd, Calvin Klein.
  • On moving to Texas, Alley found the humid climate presented a different set of pest control challenges most relating to termite. Though insects are viewed by most simply as a nuisance, Alley’s experience is rife with those truly terrified of nature’s night crawlers. Not too long ago I had a call from a lady at 2 a.m., She said she could hear a brown recluse spider in her w***s. Hear a spider? I calmed her down as best I could. When I got there later that morning, she did have a spider, but hardly a brown recluse. Some people are truly terrified.  Still, human phobias cannot be dismissed lightly—not if you want repeat business.  Those fears must be addressed patiently and honestly.
  • That’s one reason Alley’s Pest Control, servicing customers as far away as Cisco, continues growing at an exciting rate, I am enjoying that success to the fullest.

Arlington is the third most populated city in North Texas and the seventh in the state. This fast-growing city is a popular destination for tourists, but it also offers plenty in recreation and entertainment for the local singles and families.

Dubbed the ``Entertainment Capital of Texas," Arlington is home to the Ballpark in Arlington, the Texas Rangers baseball club, Six Flags Over Texas amusement park and Hurricane Harbor water park. In 1997, more than 6 million people visited these attractions.  The city also has 48 parks, two private golf courses and three municipal courses.

Supporters of the arts can enjoy visiting the Arlington Museum of Art, the only contemporary, non-collecting art museum in the Metroplex focusing on Texas art.
For families with school-aged children, Arlington Independent School District ranks as one of the 100 best school districts in the nation according to the January 1996 issue of Money magazine.  Sixty-seven percent of seniors take the SAT, and in 1997 the average score was 1,042, higher than the national and state averages of 1,016 and 995, respectively.  The University of Texas at Arlington and Tarrant County Junior College are also well-recognized for their programs.

  • The Mid-Cities or area between Dallas and Fort Worth includes
Arlington, Grand Prairie, Irving, Hurst, Euless and Bedford. Arlington
and Irving are well-known because of the Texas Rangers and Dallas
Cowboys, but Grand Prairie isn't far behind with the acquisition of Lone
Star Park for horse racing. The Mid-Cities are booming with new
businesses and recreation. Arlington offers the Texas Rangers, Six
Flags and Hurricane Harbor. Grand Prairie has Lone Star Park, the Wax
Museum and Ripley's Believe It Or Not. Irving is the home of the Dallas
Cowboys. A wide variety of businesses and entertainment can be found
    in the Mid-Cities.
